Dave Richardson has worked in the field of process automation for some 35 years. He is currently Director of Development with the Cobalt Energy Group, progressing and stewarding the growth of the Group. Before this, Mark led a waste PFI project as the SPV Director for six years (FCC Environment), led and managed EfW project delivery teams in public sector consultancy (Mace Group), led the EfW project strategy and procurement (Buckinghamshire County Council) and served for eight years managing both business development and operational teams in the hazardous waste sector (Veolia and Grundon).

Michael Anderson, Managing Director, KRR Prostream
Michael is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with a broad range of experience, from Black belt training at a blue-chip manufacturer to managing one of the UK’s oldest operational power stations after its conversion from coal to biomass and Energy from Waste (EfW). Michael is experienced with operating and maintaining Gas Turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators, Steam turbines, conventional boiler plants, coal, gas and specifically the difficulties associated with EfW and biomass plants.
Michael has recently returned to the UK having spent 5 years in the Middle East acting as a technical advisor to financiers on new build and operational power and water projects. One of Michael’s overriding values is ensuring things are done safely with everyone being able to return home unhurt at the end of day; this dovetails crucially with KRR values and with those of our clients.
Mike joined Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer in Nov 1980 and saw active service during the Falklands War, Gulf Wars and Former Yugoslavia Conflict.
He served on Steam Propulsion ships and Gas Turbine powered ships and developed a wide skill set in the operation and maintenance of propulsion, generation and hotel services associated with military Seabourn activities.
Mike achieved regular promotion to Chief Marine Engineer and undertook management training courses which complimented the physical experience of managing people and situations often in difficult and stressful conditions.
He completed 22 years’ service in Nov 2002 and started with Veolia at their in-build Chineham EfW Plant as a Shift Team Leader (STL) in Nov 2002. Went through the final stages of build and then took part in commissioning the plant before service commencement.
He moved to the Marchwood EfW plant with Veolia as an STL in Aug 2004 again through final build and commissioning and in May 2006 he was promoted to Operations Manager.
Mike was promoted to Plant Manager in 2008 and commenced a Veolia sponsored MBA in Business Management at Kingston University and completed in 2011.
He joined MVV Environment Devonport Ltd in Nov 2012 as Plant Manager/ Project Manager and Commissioning Manager for their 1st UK Energy from Waste (CHP) Facility at Devonport.
He was responsible for project managing the civils/ CHP and Bailing contracts initially but became embroiled in all eventually. Also, putting together the operations and Maintenance team for Devonport and the Ridham Dock Biomass Plant being built in parallel by MVV.
Installed the safe system of work and all associated policies and procedures for the Devonport Plant.
The plant was successfully commissioned and brought into service in Oct 2015 in partnership with Southwest Devon Waste Partnership under a 25-year contract to process all non-recyclable household waste whilst producing electrical power and District Heating to the adjacent Royal Navy Dockyard.

Paul Carey is Managing Director of MVV Environment Limited, part of MVV Umwelt GmbH of Germany, concentrating on Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power (EfW CHP) and other resource recovery solutions for the UK PFI and commercial waste markets. He also serves as a director on MVV’s three UK operating project companies, as well as its energy trading company.
Paul’s experience spans large and small-scale fossil fuel and renewable energy generation, including energy from waste, with more than 30 years in the industry. He is responsible for business development for MVV in the UK, and led the bidding, contract negotiations and successful planning consent application for the 265,000 tpa EfW CHP project for the South West Devon Waste Partnership Residual Waste Contract and the 200,000 tpa EfW CHP project for the Dundee and Angus Residual Waste Contract. He is also involved in running the 190,000 tpa waste wood biomass project at Ridham Dock, Kent. Most recently he led the negotiations to extend the life of the original Dundee energy from waste facility, and is currently overseeing the development of MVV’s Medworth project in Wisbech.

As the author of the first EU “Best Available Techniques” Reference (BREF) document on thermal waste treatments (2006) he is well known internationally for his expertise in this area. Stephen is a chartered chemical engineer who has been working in the waste and renewable power industries for Fichtner for 24 years. He is responsible for Fichtner’s lender and investor advisory services and has acted on behalf of Lenders for biomass, waste and renewable energy projects, including many of the most recent energy-from waste plants. He is also responsible for Fichtner’s environmental services and has acted as expert witness in a number of public inquiries for energy-from-waste and biomass plants on technical issues, air quality and climate change.
